The Sabbath

"Don't run Laura, Don't make faces Laura, Don't hate Laura!" I have read all the little house books by Laura Ingalls Wilder a couple times now and my mom is reading them to my siblings and I . The books might have been written for 2-4 graders but who says you can't read them at age 14 and in the 8th grade? I really enjoy the books. But as I have been listening to my mom read them again I have realized how many rules that were good then have not been used today. For an example, on the Sabbath they were not allowed to run, go outside, do chores, bake and may other things. I have not heard of anybody who uses the rules from back then on the Sabbath now. Even I run on Sunday or go outside or I will clean my room or bake some cookies. But my family has decided not to do other everyday things like e-mails, play games on the computer, or just different stuff. God says to remember the Sabbath day and to keep it holy. And in the new testament the Pharisees would do all they could to make themselves look holy. They would stand in the middle of the road and yell out prayers to God. Yet they were not actually praying to God. They were focused on themselves and trying to make sure they looked good. Then they would find Jesus in the fields picking grain to eat along with his disciples or healing a man with a withered hand and they would challenge him saying that it was not good that he healed or worked on the Sabbath. But he told them that he is Lord over the Sabbath. What I am trying to say is that on Sunday you don't have to just sit there but remember that it is God's day and that he has blessed that day and made it holy. Try spending some extra time with God in your devotions or some extra prayer time. Go outside and thank God for his creation or that you were able to wake up that morning. You can read about the Sabbath in Matthew 12.
